International Archives Day On Friday 9th June 2023
Two collections of the National Archives Department have been inscribed on the Memory of the World Register of UNESCO on 25 May 2023:
- The archival collections on the Bienheureux Père Jacques Désiré Laval – The Apostle of Mauritius
- The Slave Trade and Slavery Records in Mauritius (1721 – 1892)

One of the oldest archives in the southern hemisphere, the National Archives of Mauritius is a public body operating under the aegis of the Ministry of Arts and Cultural Heritage. Although it originated during the French period, its functioning as an official institution, was proclaimed in 1815, during the British administration
