Two collections of the National Archives Department have been inscribed on the Memory of the World Register of UNESCO on 25 May 2023:
- The archival collections on the Bienheureux Père Jacques Désiré Laval – The Apostle of Mauritius
- The Slave Trade and Slavery Records in Mauritius (1721 – 1892)
International Archives Day 2025
This year’s theme is ”Archives Are Accessible – Archives for Everyone”.
Archives week is being organised from 09 – 13 June 2025 for Grade 6 students.

One of the oldest archives in the southern hemisphere, the National Archives of Mauritius is a public body operating under the aegis of the Ministry of Arts and Culture. Although it originated during the French period, its functioning as an official institution, was proclaimed in 1815, during the British administration
