Outreach Activities

The National Archives undertakes a series of outreach activities annually. The aims of providing such activities are to:-

  • display archival materials from the collections;
  • inform viewers about the National Archives, the nature of archival materials and archival work;
  • educate the public about important historical events of the country;
  • bring about interest in the archives and encourage research;
Some of the outreach activities are as follows:-
  1. Guided visit to members of the public throughout the various sections of the National Archives;
  2. Archives Week destined to students of secondary schools;
  3. The National Archives Research and Publication Fund promotes and encourages research in our archives and also puts publications for sale. (See National Archives Publications for more information);
  4. The Public Records Appraisal Committee regularly examines and appraises lists of non-current records submitted to it by various public bodies, and makes recommendations as to the disposal of those records;
  5. Management and Senior Officers of the National Archives inspect regularly, within office hours, and after due notice has been given, public records housed in repositories other than those of the National Archives, to provide guidance and advice on ways and means of good and safe-keeping of records especially semi-current and non-current one;
  6. We go further by making presentations on Records Management in different Ministries and Departments; and
  7. Participation in exhibitions, research projects, workshops, conferences and seminars.
